Passing of Fitchburg Lodge #847 PER Hubert Davis
I have the sad duty to report on the passing of
Hubert "Dave" Davis, Past Exalted Ruler Fitchburg Lodge #847 on Wednesday
March 24, 2010 at the age of 88. He was a World War II Army Veteran, where he
served from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the Laborers Union, Local 39 for
over 60 years, and served as a past president.
Hubie was also a proud member of the FitchburgLodge of Elks for 45 years and
truly considered it a brotherhood. He loved the rich history of the rituals
and ceremonies - especially installation of officers. He went all over the
state for the Hoop Shoot sponsored by the Elks and loved to watch the kids
compete.
He also showed his love of the area's youth by helping with the Elks and Local
39's scholarships programs. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1971 and served as
their Chaplin for many years. The solemn 11 o'clock toast for deceased Elks
was his favorite and his specialty. Anyone who heard him recite this prayer
had tears in their eyes. "Dave" (as his wife's family and friends called him)
also volunteered for the Jimmy Fund-Louis Cioffi, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament
for 13 years.
Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road in Fitchburg handled the arrangements
which were held privately last week and included an Elks Ritual. Donations may
be made to: St. Anthony's Church - Hospitality Committee, In Memory of Hubert
Davis 84 Salem Street, Fitchburg MA 01420.

MA Elks Business Practices Committee To Hold Tax
Seminar
Barbara J. Franklin - Chairman, Business Practices
At the request of Business Practices, Tom Brady, a
CPA, has agreed to be a guest speaker at a seminar regarding the taxes that
seem to be plaguing our lodges -- the Form 180 and the 990T.
This seminar will be held at the Ludlow Lodge of
Elks on Monday, April 26, 2010, 7:00 PM at the Ludlow Lodge.
This will be an opportunity for Lodge Treasurers to
ask questions that will hopefully help us all.
Please pass this information to your lodges and
invite all Treasurers and anyone else interested in attending. Hope to see a
good turn-out for this most informative session.
