MA Elks Veterans Committee Holds Annual Veterans
Service Appreciation Dinner
Once again, Charlie Kay and his Veterans
Committee hosted their Annual Veterans Service Appreciation Dinner this
past Monday night at the Hudson Lodge #959., where a great meal was
enjoyed. In attendance were several representatives of the various
Massachusetts V.A. Medical Centers and/or Soldiers Homes, MA Veterans
Committee Members, and many Grand Lodge and State Association Officers
(Past and Present). Some are pictured below:
Guest Speakers included; Charlie Kay - State
Chairman Veterans Services, Mike Zellen - Special Deputy and Jim Strojny
- MA Elks State President. It was noted that our State Association will
continue the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program for the coming year, under
the Chairmanship of Mike Santos of the Beverly-Salem Lodge and that we
will be encouraging all lodges in Massachusetts to be an active
participant in the Adopt A Veteran Program, which this year will be
under the Chairmanship of Jerry Bagley of the Stoneham Lodge.

Through Sport 2009 Clinic for Disabled Veterans New England Wintersports,
Thanking the Association for honoring a Nations commitment to the
Defenders of Freedom, and accepting the Award is Veterans State Chairman
Charlie Kay along with State President Jim Strojny.
Passing of New Hampshire Past Special Deputy Dr.
Samanto Quain
I have the sad duty to report on the passing of Samanto "Doc" Quain,
DDS, 95, on Monday, August 3, 2009. He was a member of the Franklin
Lodge #1280, where he served as past Exaulted Ruler, past District
Deputy, past State Treasurer , Past Special Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler
and Past Grand Lodge Inner Guard.
Dr. Quain served with the U. S. Army as a Captain-Dental Officer. He
leaves his wife of 59 years, Hazel (Elliott) Quain,
Calling hours will be Friday, August 7, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in
Tilton. An Elks service will be held at 12:30. Following will be a
special tribute and celebration video, honoring Dr. Quain by members of
his family.
Burial with military honors will be Friday at 2:30 PM at the New
Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D.W. Highway in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, the Quain family requests that donations in Dr.
Quain's name be made to the Elks National Foundation, Attn. James W.
O'Kelley, 2750 North Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614.
Duck Tour Raffle for MA Elks Veterans Committee
Al McCarthy & Dean Kowalczuk, PER's from
Winthrop Lodge #1078 the District Chairmen for Americanism in the Metro
North District along with Larry Murphy State chairmen for Americanism
and Charlie Kay State Chairman for Veterans are running a Raffle
throughout the State for the MA Elks Veterans Fund.
The Raffle will be a "Duck Tour" that is
worth $750.00. The tour is for September 12, 2009 and will be leaving
from the Museum of Science at 6:30 PM. The winner of the raffle will be
able to invite up to 32 of his/her friends and/or family. Tickets are
$10.00 a piece or 3 for $20.00.
We plan to raffle off at the Metro-North District
Deputy Clinic on August 25, 2009. If you have any questions, please

Reminder - MA Elks Veterans Motorcycle
Run This Saturday, August 8, 2009
This is a reminder that the
Annual MA Elks Motorcycle Run to benefit our Veterans, will
start at the Weymouth Lodge of Elks #2232 on Saturday August 8,
2009. Registration will be from 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Rain
date is Sunday August 9, 2009.
The run will take off at
Noon and will stop at the Brockton V.A. Hospital to visit our
Veterans there, with a cookout at the Spinal Unit (Randolph
Lodge will be sponsoring the cookout there) and then the ride
will return to the Weymouth Lodge around 2:00 PM for a Cookout,
Raffles and Entertainment (2 Live Bands). Riders cost $20.00,
passengers cost $10.00 (First 200 to receive T-Shirts).
Remember you don't have to ride to come down and support our
Hospitalized Veterans, just show up and purchase a ticket for
$10.00.

We will once again be having our Annual MA Elks At the Lowell
Spinners Baseball Game, which will be on Sunday August 9, 2009.

MA Elks Annual Golf Tournament Openings Still
Available
Just a little note on
the MA Elks Annual Golf Tournament to be held on Monday
September 14, 2009. It will be held at the New England
Country Club in Bellingham, MA, with the Awards and Dinner
to be held at the Franklin Lodge of Elks. Cost is $100.00
per golfer and hole sponsorships are just $25.00. Please
refer to the links below for applications. This is one of
our Association Major Fundraisers. We ask, if you can not
be there, at least sponsor a hole (either individual or
lodge sponsorships are welcome).
