Passing of Lexington Lodge #2204 Past Exalted Ruler William L. Sovie
 
 
I have the sad duty to report on the passing of William L. Sovie Lexington Lodge Past Exalted Ruler, formerly of Lexington MA currently of Billerica MA , who died peacefully in his home on Saturday March 21, 2009. He was 89 and a  65-year member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Mr. Sovie was a Life Member and was elected the Exalted Ruler in 1985. He was a champion cribbage player, winning many tournaments at his lodge.
 
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road (Rt. 3A), Billerica. A Funeral mass will be held in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1 Grace Ave., Billerica, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 9:00 AM Relatives and friends invited. A private burial will follow in Westview Cemetery, Lexington, MA.

Worcester Lodge #243 Helps Serve 200 Children
 
More than 20 members of the Worcester Elks volunteered to feed & serve more than 200 children at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday March 18, 2009.  This event, (the Kid's Cafe program) was funded by the Worcester Lodge's share of last year's Mass Elks Charity Ticket sales.  Food was prepared by the Boulevard Diner of Worcester who also provided volunteer workers.  Paul Turner chaired the event along with co-chairs Sue McCarthy and Tom Blunt.
 
MA Elks Drug Awareness Program Reminder:
Just a reminder for District Chairmen of the Drug Awareness Program that State Essay/Poster contest entries must be received no later than April 1, 2009.  Four winners will be selected at the May Regional Meeting, one boy and one girl from each category.  Each will receive a multispeed bike and helmet.
