Today is: National Good Neighbor Day in the United States

On Tour With Our Grand Exalted Ruler Paul D. Helsel
 
The first stop in Massachusetts for our Grand Exalted Ruler Paul and his lovely wife Jane was a visit to the Lawrence Lodge #65.  Exalted Ruler Catherine Henderson and members of the Lawrence Lodge made sure the visit was a memorable one, with a tour of the lodge and a lovely Luncheon.

MA Elks Past State Drug Awareness Chairman Receives Presidential Award
 

Palmer Bromley of Beverly/Salem Lodge of Elks No. 1309 was awarded the President’s Call to Service Award in recognition and appreciation for his commitment to strengthen our nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.   The President of the United States called on Americans starting in 2002 to volunteer at least 2 years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lives to serve others at home or abroad.  Palmer has participated in the Elks Drug Awareness Program for the past 17 years, most recently serving as State Chairman for the past 5 years.

MA Elks Association Hold's It's 10th Annual Walk Around the Lake for ENF
 

On Sunday the 21st Of September the Mass. Elks Association sponsored the 10th Annual Walk Around the Lake at the Wakefield Lodge of Elks. It was a beautiful Sunday morning with temperatures in the low 70’s when over 120 Walker set out to walk for charity.

 

This annual event raised over $16,500.00 in charitable donations and had 37 sponsors listed on T-shirts that were given to each Walker. After the walk everyone was invited back to the Wakefield Lodge to enjoy a gourmet Italian luncheon. Wakefield Lodge has been sponsoring this event for 10 years.

 

A big thank you to the Walk Committee for all their hard work in marking this a success: Joe Bellavia, Barbara Driscoll, Tom Driscoll, Beverly Cahoon, Madith Curley, Dave Ganshaw, Ralph Grimaldi, John Guidara, Marion Hagemeister, AnnMarie Haggerty, Nancy Kelly, Maureen McNamara, Frances & Bill Minichello, Dan Casey, Mark Nichols, Larry O'Connor, Tom Brady, Peter Piecinoga, Joseph Scali, Marilyn West and Bill Pothier.

 

We hope to see you there next year when the Walk will be held on September 20, 2009.

MA Past State President To Have Surgery
 
I have been informed that Robert F. Shell, Past State President went in for surgery to have a stint in his heart, on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in Florida.  Our hopes and prayers are with Bob, for an uneventful and speedy recovery.
