Update on Arlington Lodge #1435 PER Andy
Puccino
Andy was released Tuesday September 30,
2008 afternoon from MA General Hospital. They found nothing new in
the EEG they did on Monday. Yes, he has that little "glitch" but,
they're not sure that that is what is causing the seizures. They
found no evidence of the seizures, no damage, which in itself is a
good thing, but, explains nothing about why this is happening to
him. They gave him seizure medication to come home with and feel
that that may keep him from having others.
He has an appointment with one of the Neurogists
at the Wang Building of MGH in December and he was told he can't
drive for 6 months. He's more upset about that, then the
possibility of more seizures.
We both thank you for keeping him in your
prayers, for your cards, letters and phone calls. It means so much
to us.
Love to all of you, Joanie
Passing of Falmouth Lodge #2380 Past Exalted
Ruler Donald Hillier

|
I
have the sad duty to report that Donald E. Hillier, 88, of East
Falmouth died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in Falmouth. He was
the loving husband of Helen (Mulhern) Hillier, to whom he was
married for 61 years.
Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Braintree High School in
1938 and attended Boston University.
Donald was a longtime employee of Cities Service Oil Co. (Citgo)
until his retirement in 1976, when he became a year-round
resident of Falmouth.
In his retirement, Don was a member, past secretary and past
Exalted Ruler of the Falmouth Elks BPOE 2380 in 1987-1988, and a
volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Falmouth Senior Citizens;
he also read for the Audible Ledger. In 2004, he received a
presidential volunteer service award from President Bush in
recognition of his service and civic participation.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the
Falmouth Elks Scholarship Fund or the Falmouth Senior Center. |

Elks
National Home now has Website
Have you taken a look at the Elks
National Home website lately? Even if you are not evaluating
retirement options at this time, the website is an interesting place
to visit. It is packed with beautiful color photos and lots of
information. The address is
www.elkshome.org
.
If you are a Lodge secretary or bulletin
editor, you can do your members a favor by printing the Home’s web
address in your newsletter or posting it in the Lodge. Also, if your
Lodge has a website, a link to the Home’s page would make it easy
for your members to get information with just a click of the mouse.
The staff at the Home is also happy to talk with anyone who has
questions. Just call 1-800-552-4140

'West Springfield/Agawam Lodge
#2174 Elk of the Year
Traditionally at
West Springfield-Agawam Lodge #2174, the Elk of the Year is
announced at the usual time, but then he/she is honored at a Steak
Roast at the Lodge in August. On August 9, our 2007-2008 Elk of the
Year, Bill Herd was honored at our annual Steak Roast at the Lodge
Pavilion.
Here he receives his certificate
from PER Bob Haas. Bill was presented several gifts from the lodge
and the previous Elks of the Year, including the traditional jacket
that he is wearing.
Hudson Lodge #959 4th Annual Hot Air Balloon
Festival
Here is a picture of part of the crowd
and activities held for the community, according to the local
newspaper yesterday we had over 4000 people attending the event.
We had a total of 15 Balloons taking part
in our festival, we also had 30 different vendors participate. We
had a morning lift off (6:00 AM) followed by family activities
beginning at 2:00 PM and going until 8:00 PM.
At 4:00 PM we had tethered rides for the
community, another lift off at 6:00 PM and the conclusion of the
event was a "balloon glow" at 8:30PM.
