Ed Goba Exalted Ruler of Norwood Lodge #1124 in Hospital

Norwood Lodge Exalted Ruler Ed Goba is in critical condition at Mass General Hospital. They found that he has pneumonia and that is what caused the breakdown of his vital organs. He is in an induced coma, on a ventilator and undergoing gentle  24 hour dialysis. It is touch and go. Ed's Wife Barbara has asked that we please keep Ed in our prayers.

Please do not attempt to call the family, I will keep everyone updated on his condition as I receive it from the family. They are well aware that we are all concerned and pray for his  full and  speedy recovery and are appreciative of our thoughts and prayers.

Montague Lodge #2521 Holds Veterans Committee Fundraiser Dinner

The Montague Elks held a homemade Italian dinner dance on Saturday Nov. 22, 2008 at the Lodge. The dinner was put on by the Veterans Committee with all proceeds to benefit the VAMC in Leeds, Ma.

The dinner was a delicious Italian meal from Antipasto to Rum Cake with Spaghetti, sauce from scratch, Italian sausage, homemade meatballs and garlic bread. The overeaten patrons were then able to dance their full stomachs away with the band “King Bees”.

Thanks to the Veterans Committee and especially George Sweeney, who dedicated his time and efforts organizing and his time in the kitchen for this 2nd annual dinner. The event raised $975.00 for the VAMC in the memory of Louise Casa, wife of George Sweeney.

Update From MA Elks State Convention Committee

The State Convention Committee would like to inform everyone that the State Convention for 2009 was sold out on November 20, 2008.  Those on a waiting list will be notified by mail right after the Holidays.

There are fewer people on the waiting list this year and the committee is optimistic that we will be able to accommodate everyone on the waiting list.

Fraternally,

Tony Piccolo, Jim Fuller & Dave Charbonneau

Plymouth Lodge #1476 Shows Christmas Spirit at the Brockton V.A.

Santa and his helper from the Plymouth lodge of Elks, took a little trip to the Brockton VA Hospital to bring a little joy to 55 vets who the Lodge has adopted this year for the holidays.

Bags and bags of goodies were placed in the Santa’s sleigh and off with a rush they went to spread a little joy

Gifts included for each veteran were gloves, sweatshirts, T-shirts, phone cards, gift cards for Duncan Donuts, and a few goodies to much on.

At the Plymouth Elks the Veterans are a very important part of our charity program. So instead of sending a second mailing overseas we thought that the Veterans here at home needed a little attention as well.

Once again Plymouth Lodge shows that   ELKS CAR  ELKS SHARE

Randolph Lodge #2130 Entertain Veterans

Randolph Elks entertained Veterans from the Brockton V.A. Hospital at their lodge on Sunday, December 1, 2008.  The Veterans were treated to a meal prepared by member Paul Wilson and got to enjoy watching a football game with Elk members.  They were given Patriots hats and gifts from the lodge.

Enjoying the festivities were Howard Tessnow (Army veteran), Albert Ambrose (Coast Guard, Army and Navy veteran) and Everett F. Farris, Jr. (Army veteran).  The men are from the Brockton VA Spinal Cord Injury Unit.  Accompanying the Vets were Susan Rielly, Recreation Director for the unit and James Dalelio, Recreation Driver.

Dick Wells, Elks Vets Chairman, and members of the lodge visit the Spinal Cord Injury Unit in Brockton, MA on the third Tuesday of every month.  Books, games and other personal items are brought down to the unit during these visits.  The lodge had recently donated a pool table for use in this unit.

Please Remember to File your Veterans Remembrance Report
By Robert M. Hennings, Elks National Veterans Service Commission Director

By the time you read this, each Lodge should have received a Veterans Remembrance Report Form. It is of the greatest importance that all Lodges file this report. We know you do the work, so please take the time to record your efforts and get credit!

The names of the NVSC State Chairmen whose States have 100% participation as well as the District Deputies whose Districts have 100% participation will be listed on a special Honor Roll to be published in the Elks Magazine.

I ask each Lodge Veterans Service Chairman to take a few moments to fill out this form. You might even want to do this with your Exalted Ruler and Lodge Secretary to make sure you are providing all information regarding Lodge activities for our Veterans on this report.

All reports cover your Lodge’s Veterans activities during the calendar year from January 1, 2008 thorough December 31, 2008.

THESE REPORTS MUST BE IN THE HANDS OF YOUR DISTRICT DEPUTY NO LATER THAN JANUARY 15, 2009.

If you have misplaced your Veterans Remembrance Report, or never received a copy, contact your District Deputy. He or she has extra copies. You can also call the Elks National Veterans Service Commission office in Chicago at (773) 755-4736. We will be happy to send you another one.

Thank you for all that you do for our nation’s Veterans. Your unselfish efforts on their behalf and your compassion and caring manner enhance their level of comfort and give added dignity to the lives of these deserving defenders of freedom.
