Today is: Card Playing Day in the United States
On this date in 1945 - The U.S. Congress officially recognizes the “Pledge of Allegiance”
(originally written in August 1892, by Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister and Christian Socialist, the pledge is changed twice: the original words "my Flag" are changed in 1924 to "Flag Of The United States of America" and the words "under God" are added by Congress in 1954)
 

Grandson of Worcester Lodge #243 Leading Knight Killed in Car Accident
 
It is my sad duty to announce the death of Matthew Turgeon, age 21, who was killed in a car accident on December 24, 2008. Matthew was the son of Worcester Lodge member James Turgeon, and the grandson of Leading Knight Richard L'Heureux and Joe Turgeon.  No further details are available at this time.  Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this most difficult time.

Middleboro Lodge #1274 Holiday Giving
Middleboro Lodge "Elks Tree" the angel tree for the gifts of families that needed a little extra help this holiday.  Pictured are Jack Healy of the Salvation Army, Terri Scott Exalted Ruler of the Elks, Kim of the Salvation Army receiving gifts and meals for the deserving.  The Elk membership have come together this holiday and with the giving of 40 gifts to local children and 10 meals for deserving families.
