Mass Elks Association President 2010-2011
Donald Dewar was initiated into the Wakefield Lodge of Elks #1276 in 1967. He served in all the chair positions and was Exalted Ruler in 1983 - 1984. He remained an active member of the Lodge and served a five year term as Trustee. The membership elected him an Honorary Life Member in 1984.
Brother Don has served on almost every committee in the Lodge and continues to do so.
He has served our Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the East District from 1991 - 1992. He was appointed a Trustee of a defunct lodge in 1994. He was also designated as a Special Representative of the Grand Exalted Ruler to a Lodge that was experiencing difficulties but overcame those obstacles and is now very successful.
Brother Don served our State Association as a Trustee for three years and has served on numerous committees. Among those The Elks National Foundation Fund Raising Committee on which he served 11 years, three of those years which were as State Chairman.
He is a great believer in ritual and has participated in many contests. He was a member of the team that won the Eastern Division nationally in 1981, placed second nationally in 1984 and placed fourth nationally in 1996. He was designated the All-American Exalted Ruler in 1984.
Don is a proud and active member in both the East District PER Association and the North District PER Association. As a veteran, he serves on both the Bedford VA Hospital and the Chelsea Soldiers Home Committees.
Brother Don is the proud father of four children, three of whom are Elks, as well as 11 grandchildren and a great grandson. He enjoys giving his time to the Elks. He was a self-employed businessman for 38 years of a barber shop in Wilmington, but has now retired
